Workshops

Sessions are always free
& open to the community

TANA offers free silkscreen printing courses for youth and adults. Our quarterly workshops are designed to meet the creative needs of our community members, especially those who might not have access to affordable artistic resources. These sessions are designed to create a nurturing and positive environment, encouraging participants to explore and develop their creativity and cultural understanding. They also promote civic engagement, positive identity, and the use of art in community building.

We offer ten-week workshops each fall, winter, spring, and summer, providing ample opportunities for individuals to engage with and learn the art of silkscreen printing. These year-round workshops focus on teaching silkscreen techniques while nurturing creativity. Participants also have the chance to showcase their work in our gallery.

TANA features a state-of-the-art silkscreen studio where participants can create their own prints and explore cultural themes. Advanced participants can also work on projects for professional and community organizations, combining art education with job training. TANA staff and UC Davis student interns from the Chicana/o Studies program lead the workshops, support TANA’s operations, and mentor junior high and high school students from Woodland and the greater Yolo County region.

Editions

Artist Programs

TANA’s Atelier serves as a creative hub where artists can deepen their engagement with silkscreen printmaking, build a body of work, and expand their technical and conceptual skills. Through access to TANA’s printmaking facilities and support from our skilled staff and master printers, artists are able to explore and translate their ideas into vibrant silkscreen prints.

As part of the Atelier, TANA also hosts an Artist-in-Residence, offering select artists the opportunity to collaborate with a master printer in the production of a limited edition silkscreen print. This partnership emphasizes experimentation, craft, and cultural expression. The edition is split evenly—half is retained by the artist, and half becomes part of TANA’s collection. These prints support TANA’s mission through fundraising, exhibitions, and cultural exchange, and are archived for future display locally, nationally, and internationally.

Murals

Murals are a vital component of TANA’s community-engaged arts practice and are rooted in the long-standing tradition of Chicanx public art. As an extension of the UC Davis Chicana/o Studies Mural Workshop, TANA supports students, emerging artists, and community members in the design and creation of murals that reflect the histories, struggles, and cultural resilience of local communities.

Drawing on the legacy of the Chicanx Movimiento, mural painting at TANA honors a tradition where public art serves as a form of visual storytelling, political expression, and cultural affirmation. Much like silkscreen printing—which also holds deep roots in the Chicanx art movement—murals are a democratic art form, created by and for the people. They function not only as aesthetic contributions to public space, but as tools for education, activism, and community healing.

TANA artists and students have completed several murals in the Woodland area, working collaboratively with schools, community centers, and neighborhood groups. Each mural responds to

site-specific narratives and community input, and affirms the importance of visibility, identity, and collective voice.

Poetry

While TANA’s foundation is centered on the visual arts, we are deeply committed to uplifting all forms of creative expression. Poetry & Spoken Word at TANA centers storytelling, voice, and performance as powerful tools for healing, cultural pride, and social change.

Through ongoing collaborations with Huizache: The Magazine of Latino Literature, TANA has hosted poetry readings, youth-centered spoken word showcases, and book launches that bring together established writers, emerging poets, and local community members. These gatherings create spaces where stories of identity, migration, family, love, and resistance can be shared across generations.
